The Willie Earl staff had to do a lot of ciphering to determine the Baylor Over/Under winners. As to the outright winner it was pretty simple. Helen Frink chalks up her second win of the 2023 season with nine correct answers. Close behind Helen there was a four-way tie for second place with Kelly Malek, Lesley Bohman, Eric Vogl, and David Bergstrom coming in with eight correct.
Now to the ciphering. Helen isn’t eligible to win Moneyball and when the winner isn’t eligible or didn’t opt in for Moneyball we go to the tiebreaker to determine the second-place finisher and money winner. This is where it got complicated.
Eric took second place by picking winners Notre Dame and Cincinnati in the tiebreaker. Alas, Eric did not opt in for Moneyball.
With our first and second place finishers not eligible for the dough it came down to a contest between David, Lesley, and Kelly to see who would take home the record-breaking $85 winner’s purse. David went out first losing with Ohio St. and Oklahoma. Kelly and Lesley both picked Notre Dame and Oklahoma, so they were still tied forcing their contest to Texas-Baylor score prediction. Lesley prevailed here picking Texas to win 51-17, just two points off from Texas’ margin of victory besting Kelly’s prediction of Texas winning 31-10.
So, Lesley takes home the purse, right? Not so fast Moneyball fans. A closer look at Lesley’s’ entry reveals that she too did not opt in for Moneyball.
KELLY WINS MONEYBALL!
