The 2023 Over/Under contest started with a barn burner that came down to a photo finish. Al LoCascio, Clayton Frink, and Helen Frink tied for first place with 7 correct answers. In the pick ‘em tiebreaker, Al was eliminated because he picked two losers, UTSA and LSU. Helen and Clayton went 1-1 in the pick ’em with Houston and LSU so we had to go to the score prediction for Rice at Texas to determine the winner.
Clayton called it Texas 41-6. Helen had it Texas 48-16. Though Clayton nailed the total points scored with 47, the winner is decided on point differential. Helen nosed out Clayton for the win here with a 32-point differential compared to Clayton’s 35. Congrats to Helen who has made a habit of winning over the past couple of years.
There was an eight-way tie for fourth place among David Frink, Mitch Lewis, Wes Peoples, Richard Kreger, Drew Garrod, Mark Adams, Tom Yoxall, and D.R. Flower. This group had 6 correct answers. Holy logjam Batman.
No one picked Ja’Tavion Sanders to have the longest pass reception.
The average score was 5.3.
********
All is not lost for Clayton. Since Helen is not eligible for Moneyball, Clayton takes home the prize money which is $70 tied for the highest purse in the history for Moneyball. Don’t spend it all in one place Clayton but feel free to buy me a few drinks or a dozen Titleist Pro V1x golf balls. After all, I’m your little brother. 😊
Rice versus Texas, the glass is half full
The Texas defense lived up to its preseason hype totally smothering Rice. Rice was held to 176 total yards and averaged a microscopic 1.1 yards per rush.
The offense was as average as every day’s wash and will have to dramatically improve to give Texas a chance to beat Alabama.
Talk to you Friday.
